As a result of the Thirty Years' War, the "salt period" for the city ended when the brewery was closed. After the closure of the brewery, residents made a living from fishing, building and repairing small watercraft: boats, yachts, cutters and river transportation.
Today, the taste of history and tradition survives only in the name and some historic buildings.After a period of stagnation, since the 19th century, Nowa Sol has again developed dynamically as an industrial center. Factories of thread, glue, as well as a new ironworks were established, which contributed to the development of heavy industry. At the beginning of the 20th century, a large river shipyard and transshipment port were opened, as well as railroad connections.
Modern history and the courage of the city's managers have led to the dynamic development of Nowa Sol. Tens of hectares were allocated to economic zones, where Polish and foreign investors were attracted. This has created thousands of new jobs.
